BBVA Compass Stadium wrapped up 2018 as Club América and Santos Laguna played to a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd on December 29.

The match was a clash of the champions, with Club América having recently won the 2018 Liga MX Apertura (fall) championship and Santos Laguna having won the 2018 Liga MX Clausura (spring) title earlier this year.

The friendly ended in a 1-1 draw, with both goals being scored early in the second half. América struck first through forward Fernando González in the 54th minute, only to see Santos equalize four minutes later on a free kick from defender Matheur Dória.

Fans of both teams showed their support inside and out of the stadium as a special Fan Fest took place along Rusk St. prior to the game.

The friendly drew an announced attendance of 21,853 fans who braved the chilly evening in support of their teams. "[The] match shows once again the passion for soccer that exists throughout the Houston community," said BBVA Compass Stadium General Manager Juan Rodriguez.
